Rawlings and Cardinals Care Team Up to Help Kids in Need
ST. LOUIS, MO – March 2, 2011 – Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc., today announced an expanded partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals® and its charitable foundation, Cardinals Care, to benefit kids throughout “Cardinal Nation.” As part of the partnership with the Cardinals, St. Louis-based Rawlings, a subsidiary of Jarden Corporation, will launch its first national cause marketing initiative, Rawlings Replay™. This program encourages fans to donate gently-used baseball equipment at specially-marked bins located throughout Busch Stadium during the 2011 season.
Formally launching on March 31, 2011, Opening Day at Busch Stadium, all St. Louis-area donations received as part of the season-long program will go to support Cardinals Care’s flagship Redbird Rookies program, a free baseball league for kids ages 5 to 13 who otherwise might not have the opportunity to play, and be distributed to local youth organizations to benefit disadvantaged kids.
In addition, Rawlings’ expanded partnership with the Cardinals includes sponsorship of the 2011 Cardinals Crew Kids Club, now in its 11th year. The multi-year agreement has Rawlings outfitting team mascot Fredbird with a customized Rawlings fielder’s glove and offers exclusive incentives for activating memberships.
“Rawlings’ core focus is enabling more kids to play and enjoy the game of baseball,” said Kurt Hunzeker, Rawlings’ senior director of brand marketing. “Based on our long-standing partnership with the Cardinals and our commitment to the St. Louis community, we feel that sponsoring the Cardinals Crew Kids Club really activates our Cardinals Care efforts and provides a perfect launching pad for the Rawlings Replay initiative.”
Redbird Rookies provides kids with free uniforms, gloves, bats, balls and other equipment, as well as off-field support in areas of health, education, mentoring and cultural arts. Currently Redbird Rookies has 20 leagues serving nearly 4,000 kids in the St. Louis metropolitan area, as well as rural parts of Missouri and Illinois. Since its inception in 1997, Cardinals Care has distributed more than $16 million to area children’s organizations.
“Rawlings stepped up to the plate when we launched Redbird Rookies in 2004, and they have been an outstanding partner ever since,” said Michael Hall, the Cardinals’ vice president of Community Relations and Cardinals Care. “We are very excited about their expanded commitment to help kids in our community.”
Memberships for the Cardinals Crew Kids Club presented by Rawlings are $25 and include two Cardinals tickets, a Cardinals duffel bag, an invitation to a members-only autograph party and more. Fans can purchase memberships and obtain more information at cardinals.com/kidsclub.
All fans who donate an item to Rawlings Replay will receive a 10-percent discount on select Rawlings products at its official online store, ShopRawlings.com. Cardinals Crew Kids Club members will receive a 20-percent discount if they participate in Rawlings Replay.
